  • A portrait of immigrant women in Québec
  • What can we change in francisation in order to facilitate the integration of immigrant women?
  • What role does gender play in the employment of immigrant and racialized women?
  • Tools for gender equality in immigration: evaluation of training in “gender and leadership” workshops given in seven regions in Québec in 2010-2011
  • Open discourse with the room: 30 minutes

JANUARY 21ST 2012

9:00-10h15: First panel: Eliminating structural obstacles that foster inequality

  • Alternatives to the devaluation and disregard of immigrant and racialized women’s professional and academic experiences
  • Patterns in racism and discrimination and how to counter them
  • Second generation women of immigration: How is exclusion perpetuated? What are the specific challenges faced by these women?
  • Open discourse with the room: 30 minutes

10:30: COFFEE BREAK (Tour of exhibits and kiosks)

10:45-12:00PM: Second panel: Approaches to abate isolation among immigrant and racialised women and advance equality

  • How can the creation of an integrative and affordable daycare system contribute to immigrant and racialized women’s mobility and reduce their isolation?
  • Responses to regional patterns for a better integration of immigrant and racialized women
  • How can the proliferation of meeting spaces, multiethnic networks of women and exchanging with local women, contribute to breaking the isolation felt by immigrant and racialized women, and inspire a reclaiming of power on their lives?
  • Open discourse with the room: 30 minutes

Atelier 2: Towards a francisation that stimulates socio-economic integration
